Easter Week Services at First Parish Church of Groton [ 2010-03-31 ]
First Parish Church of Groton will hold three services for Easter 2010:
Good Friday Service, Friday, April 2 at 7-8 pm
Easter Sunrise Service, Sunday, April 4 at 6:15 am
Easter Service, Sunday, April 4 at 10 am
Good Friday Service, Friday, April 2 at 7-8 pm
Through the story of Jesus’ last words and death, as told in the Gospels, as well as through silence, music and the words of poets and writers, we are invited to enter darkness, to experience its power and to reflect on how life and death, joy and sorrow are intertwined. The themes and quiet format of this service are appropriate for adults and older youth. Child care will be provided on the second floor of the East Wing.
Easter Sunrise Service, Sunday, April 4 at 6:15 am at the General Field Property, Farmers Row (Route 111) in Groton
All are welcome to this beautiful First Parish Church tradition. We will greet the sunrise on Easter morning from the Groton Conservation Trust’s General Field property (formerly known as Surrenden Farm) with a simple service. The General Field property is on Farmers Row (Route 111) heading south toward Ayer. Pass the Groton School on your right, then a yellow farmhouse. The turn-off to the General Field property is the right immediately following the yellow farmhouse driveway and will be marked with balloons. Wear sturdy shoes, dress warmly and bring hot drinks! This year we will begin the service at sunrise rather than trying to time the end of the service for it. (Special thanks to the Groton Conservation Trust and to Laurie and John Smigelski for permission to use the General Field property for our service.)
Easter Service, Sunday, April 4 at 10 am “Rolling Away the Stone”
This joyful service is for all ages and will include stories for the children, special music from the adult choir, and a short Easter message. Our theme will be rolling away the stone. Are we willing to meet the surprise and mystery that comes with new life, and to encounter the often unexpected directions new life will take us? The service concludes with the annual singing of the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah by Handel and all are welcome to join the choir. There will be childcare for babies and toddlers in the Nursery and Growing Times room.
