Easter Week Services at First Parish [ 2009-03-21 ]
First Parish Church of Groton will hold three services for Easter:
Good Friday Tenebrae Service, Friday, April 10 at 7 pm
Easter Sunrise Service, Sunday, April 12 at 5:45 am
Easter Service, Sunday, April 12 at 10 am
Good Friday Tenebrae Service, Friday, April 10 at 7 pm
Without darkness, we cannot fully appreciate light. Without death, we cannot fully understand or celebrate life. This service will be a chance to reflect through readings, silence, and music on the seven last sayings of Jesus in the Gospels and the reality that life and death, sorrow and joy are intertwined. Prepare to enter fully into the Easter story and the season of new life with this quiet, reflective service led by the Minister, Music Director, and members of the Worship Committee. This service is appropriate for adults and older youth — child care will be available during the service.
Easter Sunrise Service, Sunday, April 12 at 5:45 am at Surrenden Farm, Farmers Row (Route 111) in Groton
All are welcome to this beautiful First Parish Church tradition. We will greet the sunrise on Easter morning from the field of Surrenden Farm (a short walk from the parking area) with a simple service co-led by the Minister and First Parish young adult member, Aaron Stockwell. The turn-off to Surrenden Farm will be marked with balloons. Wear sturdy shoes and dress warmly! (Special thanks to the Groton Conversation Trust for permission to hold the service at Surrenden Farm.)
Easter Service, Sunday, April 12 at 10 am “New Life Always Arriving”
This joyful service will be for all ages and will include stories for the children, special music from the adult choir, and reflections on the mystery of Easter. Our theme will be on rolling away the stone and the amazing and unexpected life we find when we roll our stones away. All are welcome to join the choir for the annual singing of the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah by Handel. There will be childcare for babies and toddlers in the nursery and Growing Times room.
